Irish chain Centra to open 20 new stores

RBR Staff Writer Published 21 February 2012

Centra, an Ireland-based convenience store chain, plans to open 20 new outlets and expand existing shops in the Republic. The move is expected to create 300 jobs.

The company is expected to invest around EUR10m ($13.22m) in new store openings and expansion or refurbishment of existing outlets.

Half of the 300 jobs will be in new greenfield sites and the remaining through extensions and other independent shops joining the branch network.

Irish Times quoted Centra managing director Martin Kelleher as saying that the firm had sales of EUR1.4bn ($1.85bn) in 2011.

"Our continued success can be put down to our unique offer to consumers in terms of value and the position our retailers fulfill at the heart of their local communities.

"Our retail partners have been quick to adapt to the budget-conscious consumer, with initiatives such as rounded price points and multi-buys, combined with excellent bundle offers," Kelleher said.

Centra, a part of Musgrave Retail Partners Ireland, operates 458 stores across the country.
